Why is it so important to volunteer during the holidays?
Many families really struggle during the holidays. It seems like the whole world is telling them “be happy and buy stuff” and they just can’t. For whatever reason.
An article on Holiday Depression says that one of the ways to combat feelings of isolation is to go out and volunteer. “Helping others can be very helpful to you.”- Michael Kerr
And here at Hope- Miami Lakes UMC we have plenty of ways for you to volunteer this Holiday season! We need people of every ability and every age.
Some Volunteer Opportunities this Season
Can you smell the evergreens yet?!? They arrive Monday the 20th and will be on sale till the 16th of December! We have 4 shifts that you can sign up for: 9 am-12 pm, 12 pm-3 pm, 3 pm-6 pm, 6 pm-9 pm. Come lift a families spirit by talking to them about family traditions and your journey with Christ, show them love with a smiling face while you work the register, or if you enjoy using a chainsaw show them the carpenter that Jesus was through your tree trimming! Plus all the proceeds go toward our mission projects!
“HO, HO, HO” Santa says, “December 9th starting at 6 pm. This is the night I plan to volunteer!” The preschool will be performing the Nativity scene, the praise band will be playing, and Santa will be there. So we will need extra people to help out with tree sales!
During the holidays our regular volunteers have vacations to go on. So, if you plan to be in Miami Lakes contact the Church office and see how you can help out during a Sunday service! We usually need greeters, ushers, people to run the media or the sound. No experience necessary, we will train you in whatever area you wish to volunteer!
Keep on the look out:
For toy drives, food drives, clothes drives, and more volunteer opportunities to come!
