The Blessed Life: Blessed are the poor in spirit.

blessed, beatitudes, ash wednesday, mourning, meek, hungry, mercy, heart, peacemakers

I have known that this sermon series was coming up! So, like the straight A student I am, I started reading Matthew ahead of time. It was a quick read. But, I didn’t really get it. And got a little stuck on the beatitudes. Like this first one:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3

What is Jesus talking about here?

What does He mean “blessed are the poor in spirit”?
